Soochow University Medical Students’ Association (SMSA), founded on the 29th of December, 2014, is one of the 15 local committees of IFMSA-China. It aims to expose medical students of Soochow University to humanitarian and global health issues, to give them the opportunity to take part in clinical and research exchanges worldwide and to help provide a network that links active medical students across the globe.
The International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), founded in 1951, is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organizations. It represents, connects and engages every day with an inspiring and engaging network of 1.3 million medical students from 130 national member organizations in 122 countries worldwide. IFMSA brings people together to exchange, discuss and initiate projects to create a healthier world. Now, it is recognized as a non-governmental organization within the United Nations system and the World Health Organization, and also works with the World Medical Association.
IFMSA-China, founded in 2009, aiming to provide domestic and international communications among medical students in China, and having established a platform where medical students can improve themselves, call for social awareness and make a difference. Since 2009, IFMSA-China has been animated on the world stage. Hundreds of Chinese medical students got the chance to improve their professional/research knowledge abroad, at the same time, foreign medical students came to China to learn and communicate. Besides, the representatives of IFMSA-China presented our achievements on General Assembly of IFMSA, which were praised and appreciated by medical students around the world.
SMSA is composed of 5 standing committees (SCOME, SCOPE, SCORE, SCOPH, SCORA), publicity and secretariat.
