SUMC currently enrolls nearly 9,000 domestic students, including 5,100 undergraduates, 2,690 postgraduates (including those in professional degree programs), 359 doctoral students, and 514 international students. Additionally, SUMC has nearly 10,000 students in its continuing education programs. SUMC currently has 281 doctoral advisors, 1,004 master’s degree advisors, nearly 800 on-campus teaching and administrative staff members, and 985 clinical teachers in 4 hospitals that are directly affiliated with SUMC.

SUMC has four directly affiliated hospitals and thirteen indirectly affiliated hospitals, which are the sites for clinical training of students. Additionally, SUMC has 18 off-campus biological field stations, and 10 off-campus pharmacy and pharmaceutical sites.
SUMC has a group of distinguished faculty members. There are 3 academicians, 12 recipients of the National Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars,10 recipients of the National Natural Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, and 2 recipients of the award of Distinguished Professor of the “Chang Jiang Scholars Program” of the Ministry of Education. A group of SUMC faculty members serve on important national committees: 4 members on the Recruitment Program of Global Experts for the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, 10 members on the Young Recruitment Program of Global Experts for the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, and 4 members on the Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of the State Council.
SUMC has 2 innovative teams of the Ministry of Education, 1 Engineering Technology Research Center of the Ministry of Education, 3 teams of the Jiangsu Innovative Team Plan, 2 Collaborative Innovation Centers in Colleges and Universities of Jiangsu Province, 1 Outstanding Science and Technology Innovative Team in Colleges and Universities of Jiangsu Province, 7 Key Laboratories supported by either the Provincial government or ministries of the central government, 1 Provincial Science and Technology Public Service Platform, and 17 City- or Department-level Key Laboratories and Public Service Platforms.
For its international outreach, SUMC has established long-term collaborative relationships with colleges, universities and research institutions in Hong Kong and Taiwan and in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Singapore.
